Artisans and craftspeople of our country who work with their hands and tools usually operate independently and belong to the informal or unorganised sector of the economy.
These people are commonly referred to these traditional workers as Vishwakarmas. They work in trades such as blacksmithing, goldsmithing, pottery, carpentry, sculpting, and similar occupations. Families and informal artisan groups pass down these skills from one generation to the next.
To support these skilled workers, the Government of India launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2025.
This scheme aims to improve the quality and market reach of their products and services. It also seeks to integrate Vishwakarmas into domestic and global value chains.
The scheme provides complete support from skill training to market access to help artisans grow in their trades.
It aims to modernize their traditional occupations, enhance their productivity, and improve their socio-economic status and quality of life.
