What is PMJAY Ayushman Bharat Yojana?
The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) to achieve its vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
As a result, AB PM-JAY has become the world’s largest health assurance scheme which helps needy poor citizens, offering ₹5,00,000 health coverage per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
Moreover, the Government fully funds PM-JAY, with the Central and State Governments jointly sharing the implementation costs which helps the individual family without worrying about financial burdens.
Key Benefits of PMJAY Ayushman Bharat Yojana

Eligibility Criteria for PMJAY Ayushman Bharat Yojana
For Rural Beneficiaries
To qualify in rural areas, a family must belong to meet at least one of the following six groups:
- Live in a single-room house with kuchha walls and kuchha roof
- Have no adult person aged between 16 and 59
- Have no adult male member aged between 16 and 59
- Include a disabled member with no able-bodied adult support
- Belong to a SC/ST category.
- Be a landless household relying mainly on manual casual labor for income
Automatic Inclusion (No survey needed):
- Destitute individuals or those living on alms
- Manual scavenger households
- Primitive tribal groups
- Legally released bonded laborers
For Urban Beneficiaries
In urban areas, individuals working in the following 11 occupational categories are eligible:
- Rag-pickers
- Beggars
- Domestic workers
- Street vendors, cobblers, hawkers, and other street-based service providers
- Construction workers, plumbers, masons, laborers, painters, welders, security guards, and coolies
- Sweepers, sanitation workers, and gardeners
- Home-based workers, artisans, handicraft workers, and tailors
- Transport workers, drivers, conductors, helpers, cart pullers, and rickshaw pullers

- Electricians, mechanics, assemblers, and repair workers

Who are excluded from PM-JAY?
The following individuals are not eligible for PM-JAY coverage:
- Those who own a two-wheeler, three-wheeler, four-wheeler, or a motorized fishing boat
- Those who own mechanized farming equipment
- Those with Kisan Credit Cards having a credit limit of ₹50,000 or more
- Government employees
- Those working in government-managed non-agricultural enterprises
- Individuals earning a monthly income above ₹10,000
- Households that own a refrigerator or a landline phone
- Those living in solid, well-built (pucca) houses
- Those families who own 5 acres or more of agricultural land

Required Documents for Registration
To complete the PM-JAY registration process, applicants must submit the following documents:
- Provide valid age and identity proof, such as an Aadhaar Card or PAN Card.
- Submit proof of address, like a utility bill, Aadhaar, or any government-issued address document.
- Share your valid mobile number and email ID.
- Attach a caste certificate, if applicable, to verify your social category.
- Include an income certificate to confirm your economic eligibility for the scheme.
- Furnish a document that reflects the current status of your family i.e., whether it’s a joint or nuclear family.
- Ensure you submit an Aadhaar Card, as it is mandatory for identity verification.
Steps to Apply Online
To get a PM-JAY e-card, the beneficiary must visit either a hospital or a Common Service Centre (CSC) and follow the steps below:
- First, the potential beneficiary must provide one of the following: PM letter, RSBY URN, Ration Card number, or Mobile Number.
- Next, the Arogya Mitra (operator) searches the list of eligible beneficiaries using details like name, location, ration card number, mobile number, or RSBY URN.
- Then, the operator searches for the beneficiary in the BIS application, which includes from SECC, RSBY, State Health Scheme, and the Additional Data Collection Drive.
- Once the operator finds the name, they begin the identification process.
- The beneficiary must provide valid ID documents such as Aadhaar or any other government-issued ID, along with a ration card or another family ID.
- Afterward, the operator scans and uploads these documents into the system.
- Next, the Arogya Mitra verifies family records using the ration card. They upload the necessary scanned documents and submit both individual and family records to the insurance company or state trust for further approval.
- Following submission, the insurance company or trust reviews the case. If they recommend rejection, the State Health Agency (SHA) conducts a final verification before confirming approval or rejection.
- Finally, once the SHA or insurance company approves the beneficiary’s application, they issue a PM-JAY e-card to the individual.
How to Login to the PMJAY Portal or APP
You can log in either through the official website or by using the Ayushman Bharat app.
Option 1: Login via Official Website
- Follow the official link to access the PM-JAY login portal.
- Select the “Beneficiary” radio button.
- Enter your registered mobile number and click on the “Verify” button.
- You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number as part of verification process.
- Enter the OTP that you received, then fill in the captcha, and click “Login” to access your PMJAY dashboard.
Option 2: Login via Ayushman Bharat App
- Download and install the Ayushman Bharat app from the official app store on your mobile.
- Open the app and select the “Beneficiary” radio button.
- Enter your mobile number and tap “Verify”.
- An OTP will be sent to your mobile number.
- Enter the OTP, then enter the captcha, and tap “Login” to proceed.
How to Check Beneficiary Name in the PMJAY List?
After logging in with your mobile number through the portal or the app, the Beneficiary List page will appear on your dashboard.
- Select your state from the drop down menu.
- Choose the appropriate scheme name.
- Select the “Search By” option (such as mobile number, name, or ration card).
- Choose your district.

- You can search the hospital by following the UMANG link
- Select the state, district, specialty and click on submit.
- The name of hospitals along with address and phone numbers will be listed.
